Buddy "L" Toys were produced by the Moline Pressed Steel Co. These toys were first produced in 1921. The business was started by Fred Lundahl who was the founder of the Moline Pressed Steel co. Mr. Lundahl first designed toys for his son "Buddy". The toys were advertised as "Guaranteed Indestructible" there would be many more toys to be found if there had not been metal drives to support the war. The sheet metal used in the toys was the same as used in real vehicle production. Most toys were based on real production vehicles.

Buddy “L’ Sand and Gravel Truck Number 202-A
One of the most essential pieces of equipment used in the vast construction projects conducted by Buddy “L” boys is this model truck built expressly for hauling sand, gravel and other materials. THE CHASSIS is standard Buddy “L” design with 4¼” aluminum disc wheels, automobile type steering mechanism, drop forged spindles, high carbon steel axles, crown fenders, 23/4’ x 3I~4” radiator, stream line hood and channel section frame. THE CAB is 53/4” wide, 4%” deep with 2” seat and is made of 20 gauge steel. THE BODY is 14” long, 3%” deep and 8” wide with removable partition for separating load. ‘Ihe sloping bottom allows the material to flow freely and quickly from the two discharge doors on either side which are hinged and provided with special latch. Buddy “L” Lumber Truck Number 203-A
This is one of the most attractive truck models in the Buddy “L” Line and a faithful reproduction of the large trucks built for hauling lumber. THE CHASSIS is Buddy “L” standard with steel channel section frame, aluminum wheels, steering mechanism and substantial steel cab 5 3/4” wide with seat 2” deep. THE BODY is stake platform type with loading space 15 5/8” long, 7” wide and 1” deep with 5/8 flare boards and hinged end gate fitted with catch. It has six stake sockets on each side with two stake sections which can be removed making a flatbed. The bed is fitted with 3 steel rollers, the rear roller being equipped with folding crank so that loads can be rolled off easily. Buddy “L” Street  Sprinkler Number 206
To sprinkle the “streets in the land of make-believe,” we offer this Buddy “L” model copied from the big outfits so attractive to youngsters in the good old summer time. THE CHASSIS is Buddy “L” standard type with 4’2” disc wheels; 2” steering wheel, 7’4” tread, 234” x 312” radiator; 412” hood and automobile type steering mechanism. It is fitted with steel cab 534” wide x 434” deep. THE TANK is 12” long, 434” in diameter, water tested, and is fastened securely to body by two steel bands. Tank has large filler cap and brass faucet which feeds water into 3.~” sprinkler bar which is perforated with holes the entire length. FINISHED in two coats baked-on enamel. Buddy "L" Coal Truck Number 202

Built exactly like the big trucks used in hauling coal to be delivered by chute through sidewalk or basement openings. The chassis is standard Buddy "L" design with steel channel section frame, regular automobile type steering mechanism, aluminum wheels are dropped forged spindles, high carbon steel axles and is fitted with big roomy cab. The body is made of 20 gauge steel 13" x 8" at top tapering to 6" x 5 3/4" at bottom; it is 5" deep and has 1 1/2" x 13/4" flanged and tapering coal chute is furnished with each outfit. The finish is baked on enamel in two coats of red and black.

Buddy "L" Coach Number 208
This model is considered by many as the finest plaything ever produced. It embodies all the beautiful lines, harmony of coloring and distinctive design to be found in the finest coaches operating on the highways. The chassis is strong and rugged with channel type frame - drop forged spindles - high carbon steel axels - 3" aluminum front wheels and heavy duty type dual rear wheels. Steering or guiding is accomplished by simply turning the spare wheels forward or backward and can be done while the child rides on top. The body is made of 20 gauge steel with two hinged entrance doors, at extreme front and is fitted with two rows of steel coach chairs. It is perfect in every detail with double bar bumper - large radiator, fitted heat meter - gracefully curved fenders - stream line hood - service type lights - sunshade - signal lights ect. Finished with two coats, baked on, brilliant blue gray enamel, striped in deep red and trimmed in nickel.

Buddy "L" Railway Express Truck Number 204-A

Here's a Buddy "L" Model which has been designed and built with unusual attention to detail and has gained great popularity with both boys and girls. The chassis is standard Buddy "L" design with disc wheels, crown fenders, stream line hood and automobile type steering with a 2" steering wheel and a roomy drivers compartment with 2" deep seat 5 3/4 wide. The body is stake type with drop end gate and screened upper section which can be lifted off leaving an open express body. The screen section has two hinged rear doors fitted with Corbin padlock and two keys. Finished with two coats of baked on enamel- chassis red; hood, fenders, body black; upper section and top green.

Buddy "L" Moving Van Number 204
A very life-like reproduction of the general type of baggage hauling trucks in popular use everywhere. This model is strong and rugged and makes a good vehicle for children to ride and steer. The chassis is standard Buddy "L" Design with aluminum wheels, high carbon steel axles, drop forged spindles, channel section frame, truck type steering mechanism, ect. The body is straight side type with supporting stakes and sockets firmly welded in place. It has loading space 14 1/4 long, 7 1/2 wide and 3 1/2 deep and is fitted with two rear cross chains which may be unhooked. Cab is standard Buddy "L" design. Finish is two coats baked on enamel - red chassis, black cab and yellow body.

Buddy "L" Moving Van Number 204

This attractive Buddy "L" Imitation of the real thing has made thousands of children supremely happy because it can be adapted to so many purposes in the day of play. The chassis is strong and rugged with channel section frame, aluminum wheels, drop forged spindles, high carbon steel axles and is fitted with automobile type steering mechanism that actually steers by turning large 2" steering wheel. It has crown fenders, substantial running boards and stream line hood. The body is paneled type made of 20 gauge steel with inside loading space13" long, 8" wide and 7 1/2" high with two hinged doors at the rear fitted with lever type catches. The top of body forms a protecting canopy over drivers seat which is 2" deep and 5 3/4 wide.

Buddy "L" Auto Wrecker Number 209
An exact reproduction of big wreckers with crane swinging in complete circle and two cable windlass - one for hoisting and the other for pulling or dragging - a real joy maker for any red blooded boy. The chassis is standard Buddy "L" design fitted with special body 6" wide, 14" long with brass hand rail and rear step - It has 6 1/2" loading space in front of the crane for tools or packages. It steers from the drivers seat. The crane is the latest automotive type with 7 1/2 boom swinging in 8" circle by mean of turntable at base operated by means of turntable at base operated by hand wheel, windlass and hoisting drum spools are 1 1/4" long with 1/4" flanges. The upper drum used fro hoisting has a cable capacity range of 4 feet. Cable drums are fitted with automatic ratchet locks and the outfit is a regular giant for power with a load capacity of 18 to 20 pounds. The finish of chassis and wheels is bright red with fenders and hood, truck body and crane is bright red.

Number 201 Buddy "L" Dump Truck

Buddy “L” Hydraulic Dump Truck Number 201-A

One of the finest playthings in the Buddy “L” Line. It not only looks like the big hydraulic dump trucks but it works just like them. Just release a lever and the body raises automatically—push the body down into place on the chassis and it automatically locks. You really have to see this model in action to appreciate it.

THE CHASSIS has steel channel section frame. 4¼” aluminum wheels, automobile type steering mechanism, 2” steering wheel, crown fenders, running boards, stream line hood, steel radiator and special seat 5 3/4” wide by 2” deep.

THE BODY is made of 20 gauge steel, l2 1/4” long. 5 3/4” wide, 1 7/8” deep with 1/2“ flare boards and drop end gate fitted with hinges and snap locks. HYDRAULIC unit has cylinder 5’” long by 1” in diameter and will raise a load of 12 pounds easily and indefinitely. This is a great truck to ride and steer.
FINISHED in red anti black enamel with circumference of wheels polished making the tires look like real rubber.

Buddy “L” Dump Truck Number 201 

The Buddy ‘L” organization, originators and pioneer builders of all-steel indestructible playthings, commands leadership in the field by adhering strictly to the policy of producing true-to-life, dependable, durable and workable models such as this. 

THE CHASSIS has steel channel section frame, high carbon steel axles, drop forged spindles, 4’4” aluminum disc wheels fitted with bearings, automobile type steering mecha­nism controlled from driver’s seat—it is complete in every detail with stream line hood, large radiator, crown fenders, running boards, etc.

THE DUMP BODY is made of heavy 20 gauge steel— 12¼” long, 534” wide and 2” deep with ‘a” flare boards and drop end gate. It is raised for dumping by chain windlass fitted with special sprocket ratchet which holds body se­curely at any elevation. All mechanism is fully enclosed.

FINISHED in two coats of auto enamel, baked on, chassis is red and balance in black.

Buddy “L” Express Truck Number 200

This is the original Buddy “L” toy—the model that held the weight of a ²00-pound man and established the fame of the Buddy ‘L” name. It is still a popular favorite and brings joy into the hearts of thousands of youngsters every year.

THE CHASSIS is Buddy “L” design with each part and detail accurately and carefully reproduced so that it will be realistic, have short turning radius, withstand strain and twist, have proper balance and endure indefinitely.

THE BODY is 12¾” long, 53/4” wide, 13/4” deep with ¼”flare boards. It is made of heavy 20 gauge automobile steel, electrically welded and riveted at every joint to give maxi­mum strength and all corners and edges are rounded off to avoid scratching.

FINISH is put on by dipping in finest enamel that money can buy, then baked on to give a hard, lasting surface which retains the luster. Color is black with red wheels.

Buddy "L" Ford Dump Cart

A realistic copy of one of the popular Ford Models used extensively on Construction work for hauling concrete, cinders and other materials. THE CHASSIS is special Ford type with steel channel frame, steel axles, drop forged spindles, 212” aluminum wheels with steering mechanism operated from driver’s seat. It is equipped with regular Ford design fenders, running boards, radiator and hood. THE BODY is pivoted on rear of frame over axles and when catch is released tips backward discharging the load pushed back into position the body is automatically locked into place—It is 2” deep, 3” wide, and tapers from 214” long at bottom to 4” long at the top.
